Twice a day, this age group was administered 1200mg of NAC for a month. Those that took the 1200mg NAC prescription for 4 weeks reported suffering fewer cravings and a reduction in the number of times they used marijuana per day. In the next experiment, 116 cannabis dependent participants in the age range of 15- 21 years were tested to determine the effects of NAC on marijuana substance use. The participants were given 1200mg of NAC twice a day for 8 weeks and compared to the placebo (control group). The results of this test were the same as the first; participants reported fewer marijuana cravings and ended us using marijuana less frequently.
The overall conclusion from this study showed that NAC was successful in reducing marijuana cravings in marijuana dependent individuals.

The 8 participants were given a tablet that might contain nothing but cornstarch, THC and tiagabine, and just THC or just tiagabine. When sampling the drugs, each letter on a drug was assigned to a person. When sampling, participants were tasked with taking 4 pills with different side effects. These sampling sessions occurred twice a day Monday through Friday, and the procedure lasted for 7 and a half hours. At the end of the experiment, Lile et. al. concluded tiagabine should be considered a viable treatment for substance abuse disorders. GABA supplements are taken orally, and there has been no observed increase in depressive behavior from these dosages, however, very large doses may lead to depression.
